Scott McLean

President

Scott is a ten-year Air Force veteran who lived the mission before he ever led it. Equine-assisted learning for veterans carrying PTSD, TBI, and the weight that comes with service has been, in his own words, a total game-changer — a space to heal, learn, and rediscover his path.

When the opportunity came to lead the board of an organization whose veterans program aligns with work he has already spent years building elsewhere, his answer was yes. "I don't just believe in the mission," he says. "I am a product and proof of it."

As President of the Board of Directors, Scott leads board governance, partners with the Executive Director on strategic direction, and serves as the organization's primary veteran voice — especially as the Veterans program takes shape. He brings a decade of founder-level operating experience to the boardroom and a profound personal investment in what Hands for Healing Equine will mean for the veterans who come through the barn doors.

Outside this role, Scott is Founder and Executive Director of two veteran-focused nonprofits: the One Man One Mic Foundation, which equips veterans navigating PTSD and TBI with podcasting and storytelling tools to cultivate purpose and post-traumatic growth; and the Honor In Ashes Project, which transforms unserviceable American flags into symbols of respect for veterans at cremation, preserving the dignity of those who served. He produces and hosts The VetsConnection Podcast, spotlighting nonprofits and VA programs serving the veteran community, and speaks publicly on veteran healing, service, and storytelling.

Scott joined this board because he has already lived the answer to a question many still ask: can a horse or a donkey really help? His work insists it can.
