Poe
Dept. Head, Long Ears & Eyelashes
Poe — formally Pope, but nobody calls him that — was born in Maine on Easter Sunday, 2020. A standard donkey with the longest ears on the farm and eyelashes most humans would pay for, he has been greeting visitors with his signature brays since before he could see over a fence rail. If you hear laughter coming from the barn, Poe is usually the reason.
He started working as an equine-assisted learning partner at just five months old — early, even by donkey standards — and has been at it ever since. Standard donkeys are prized for their intelligence, versatility, and genuine friendliness, and Poe carries all three with the particular confidence of someone who knows he's charming. He works especially well with children and young adults, loves to be groomed, and has a gift for putting nervous first-timers at ease.
Out in the paddock, you'll find him alongside Autumn — the two of them make up one of the farm's most reliable pairs. Curious, expressive, and entirely himself, Poe brings lightness and authenticity to every interaction. He is not performing. He is just Poe.
That's the lesson, really. Poe reminds us to stay present, stay curious, and stay true to who we are.
