Phil Jones
Windrush Farm Partner
For more than thirty years, Phil Jones went looking to relieve suffering at the molecular level. Most of his career was spent researching new pharmaceutical solutions — careful, painstaking work, and a cause he believed in. A little over two years ago he left the industry and went to the barn.
Equines were never far off. Phil grew up in the UK and started riding there as a boy. When he moved to the US in 1995, he kept riding. Today he lives in Danvers with his wife Sue, their two dogs, and three horses: Scout, an American Paint; Marcus, a Dutch Warmblood; and Angel by Day, his beloved off-the-track Thoroughbred — a horse who left the racetrack and found a second life, which is a story this herd understands.
At Windrush Farm Therapeutic Equitation Inc., Phil has worked in classes with children navigating a range of emotional and developmental challenges, and he leads a program for people in the early stages of dementia. He sits with those at the beginning of losing themselves, and lets the equines do what they do best.
The two halves of his life turn out to be one. He is working toward the PATH Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning certification, and he comes to Hands for Healing Equine through our partnership with Windrush, gaining experience alongside Suzanne.
Three decades studying what the mind needs. The equines had been answering all along.
Come meet Phil as he will be a friendly face and fixture at the barn for our Veterans and Mothers Mourning Brush programs.
